Apple Inc. this week announced the iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable iPhone.

The iPhone Duo sports a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display when unfolded. The inner display packs a nano-texture matte finish with 40 percent higher stiffness than materials used in competitive devices. Both displays offer 3000 nits peak brightness and Apple Pencil support with USB-C.

Touch ID authentication is integrated into the power button. In addition, the side includes a Camera Control button found in Pro models.

The chassis itself, which weighs 254 grams, is constructed from grade 5 titanium anchored by a 3D-printed hinge cover that protects the more than 100 components inside. The hinge allows the device to be postured in multiple angles to view content or take photos and calls with the main cameras. The device measures 5.2mm opened and 11.3mm in depth when closed.

The Duo packs two rear cameras – the 48MP Fusion Main and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide cameras straight from the iPhone 18 Pro models. The Center Stage front camera can take photos and video automatically and the inner Facetime camera is hidden behind the 7.6-inch display.

Video quality tops out at 4K120FPS in Dolby Vision and Cinematic Effects can be applied after capture at up to 60FPS.

The Duo is powered by the new A20 Pro CPU with 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. The new C2 modem now supports mmWave in the U.S. Battery life is said to reach 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and 44 hours of video playback on the outer display. The device can be quick charged to 50 percent in about 20 minutes. It is eSim only in global territories.

Finally, the Duo supports MagSafe to support magnetic accessories including the iPhone Duo Folio Case.

The iPhone Duo will be sold at $1,999 on Oct. 23. Pre-order sales start Oct. 16.
