Sony Corp. this month limited PlayStation 5 Disc Drive sales for Digital Edition consoles due to strong demand.

At the PS5 Disc Drive product page, the company disclaims a limit of one disc drive per order.

The PS5 Disc Drive allows Digital Edition console owner to play PS5 and select PS4 game discs, in addition to Blu-ray discs and DVDs.

Sony this month said it will end physical disc production for PlayStation consoles by Jan. 2028.

New PlayStation titles will be sold at the PlayStation Store and retail stores in digital format only.

The company cited consumer preference for digital downloads over physical media.

In Q4 financial data, Sony recorded 85 percent of PlayStation full game sales in digital format and 15 percent in physical disc format.
