Sony Corp. this week said it will end physical disc production for PlayStation consoles.

Beginning Jan. 2028, new PlayStation titles will be sold at the PlayStation Store and retail stores in digital format only.

The company cited consumer preference for digital downloads over physical media.

In Q4 financial data, Sony recorded 85 percent of PlayStation full game sales in digital format and 15 percent in physical disc format.
