PS5 sales fall 58 percent in May

Circana this month said sales of Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 5 fell 58 percent year-over-year due to price hikes.

The hardware ranked as the No. 2 console in May at domestic retail.

In addition, PS5 sales fell to their lowest May total since May 2000.

Sony increased PS5 prices in Apr. 2026 by $100 to $150 citing chip and memory shortages.

In Q4, the PS5 hardware shipments declined 46.4 percent to 1.5 million units compared to the year prior. Hardware sales totaled to 93.7 million units to date.

PS5 and PS4 software sales totaled 74.6 million units in the period, a decline of two percent compared to one year ago. Digital game purchases totaled to 85 percent of software sales.

The Game and Network Services segment, which includes the PlayStation business, held net sales of $7.1 billion, a decline of three percent year-over-year. The division held operating income of $630 million, a 12 percent decline from the prior year.

The PlayStation Network held 124 million active users in Q4.
