Sony Corp. this week recorded strong sales of the PlayStation 5 console in the second quarter amid a decline in operating income.

In Q2, the PS5 sold 3.9 million units. PS5 sales to date total to 84.2 million units.

PS5 and PS4 software sales totaled 80.3 million units in the period. Digital game purchases totaled to 72 percent of software sales.

The Game and Network Services segment, which includes the PlayStation business, held sales of $7.9 billion, a four percent increase from the prior year. Operating income totaled to $781 million, a 13 percent decline year-over-year.

The company cited an impairment loss related to Bungie’s Destiny 2 game and a correction in the amount of capitalized game developments costs for the decline.

The PlayStation Network held 119 million active users in Q2.
