New Nintendo Switch to include upgraded Nvidia chip, says report

Nintendo Co., Ltd. will release a new Nintendo Switch model that will include an upgrade graphics chip from Nvidia Corp. according a new report.

Bloomberg this week claims the new Nintendo Switch will include an Nvidia chip that utilizes Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) to render higher-fidelity graphics.

The publication previously reported Nintendo will source the 7-inch, 720p resolution OLED display from Samsung Display Co. and that the new hardware will offer 4K resolution when docked.

Mass production is said to begin in June.

Nintendo recorded a $2.2 billion operating profit in the third quarter amid strong sales of the Nintendo Switch.

In Q3, Nintendo sold 11.6 million Nintendo Switch units, a seven percent increase from the year prior. It has sold 79.87 million Nintendo Switch units to date.

It expects to sell 26.5 million units for the fiscal year ending Mar. 31, 2021, an increase from a prior forecast of 24 million units.
