Nvidia Corp. this week announced the purchase of UK-based Arm Limited from SoftBank Group Corp. for $40 billion.
Under the purchase, Arm will continue to operate its open-licensing model and expand its R&D presence in the UK.
The combined company will leverage Nvidia’s expertise in graphics cards and AI computing with Arm’s popular computing platform and IP licensing.
Nvidia this month will release the GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs which will offer up to 2X the performance and 1.9X the power efficiency of the prior Turing-based generation.
The products include new streaming multiprocessors, second-gen RT Core, third-gen Tensor cores, GDDR6X graphics memory and next-gen process technology.
The GeForce RTX 3070 will sell at $499 in Oct., the 3080 will sell at $699 Sept. 17, and the 3090 will sell at $1,499 Sept. 24.
