Nvidia Corp. and Microsoft Corp. this week said Minecraft will support real-time ray-tracing.

A free update is said to add more realistic, shadows, lighting and vibrant colors.

A form of ray-tracing called path tracing will be added to the Windows 10 version.

Path tracing simulates the way light is transported through a scene.

Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs support games with real-time ray-tracing.

Minecraft has sold more than 176 million copies at global retail.
