NPD Group Inc. this month said Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd.’s Kingdom Hearts III for Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One ranked as the top-selling software in 2019.
Year-to-date, Kingdom Hearts III ranked as the No. 1 best-selling software in 2019.
In Feb., it ranked as the No. 3 software at U.S. retail based on dollar sales.
The title recorded 2.5 times greater dollar sales compared to the Kingdom Hearts II released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2.
In addition, it exceeded sales of Kingdom Hearts II by 80 percent in time-aligned figures.
Kingdom Hearts III is an action RPG sequel that includes Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
The title includes new enemy types, Keyblade transformations, and team attacks.
The final game utilizes Unreal Engine 4.
The title has shipped five million units at global retail.
