NPD Group Inc. this week said Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd.’s Kingdom Hearts III for Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One ranked as the top-selling software at U.S. retail in Jan.

For the month, Kingdom Hearts III ranked as the No. 1 software at U.S. retail based on dollar sales.

The title recorded 2.5 times greater dollar sales compared to the Kingdom Hearts II released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2.

Kingdom Hearts III is an action RPG sequel that includes Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

The title includes new enemy types, Keyblade transformations, and team attacks.

Confirmed worlds include Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story 3.

The final game utilizes Unreal Engine 4.

The title has shipped five million units at global retail.
