Super Smash Bros. Ultimate No. 3 at Japan retail

Media Create Co., Ltd. this month said Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch ranked as a best-selling title in the latest retail data from Japan.

Between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sold 49,533 units to rank as the No. 3 best-selling software in the period.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a new entry in the fighting franchise that includes characters from all prior Super Smash Bros. titles, in addition to Inkling from Splatoon and Ridley from Metroid.

Updates include faster combat, new attacks, new items, and new defensive options.

New characters include Simon Belmont from Castlevania and King K. Rool from Donkey Kong Country.

Echo fighters, which have move sets based on other fighters, include Richter Belmont, Chrom, and Dark Samus.

New stages include Dracula’s Castle, New Donk City Hall, and Battlefield and Omega forms. A total of 300 stages will be available from the start. In addition, the Stage Morph option will let users choose two stages and one will transform into the other.

New items include the Banana Gun, Killing Edge, Bomber, Death’s Scythe, Staff, Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom and Rage Blaster.

Poké Ball assist characters include Abra, Solgaleo, Lunala, Mimikyu, and Alolan Exeggutor.

Modes include Classic Mode, Stamina Battle, Final Smash Meter, Squad Strike, Tourney Mode, Smashdown, and Training.

Music includes 900 compositions and more than 28 hours of game music.
