Microsoft Corp. this week said Activision Publishing, Inc.’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for the Xbox 360 is backward compatible to the Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released in Nov. 2011.

Microsoft in May said Xbox One Backward Compatibility titles have totaled 1 billion hours in play.

The backward compatibility function allows Xbox One owners to utilize their Xbox 360 retail discs to download the software to their Xbox One and play natively with Xbox One functionality.

New backward compatibility titles include Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Breakdown, Conker: Live & Reloaded, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Hunter: The Reckoning, Jade Empire, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and SSX 3.
