Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo DS SKUs held a lead over Sony Corp.’s PSP sales in the latest retail data from Japan. Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Nintendo DSi LL sold 17,146 units between Apr. 12 and Apr. 18 to rank as the No. 4 hardware for the week.
In addition, the Nintendo DSi sold 11,240 units in the same period.
Finally, the DS Lite sold 2,869 units for the week.
The PSP sold 28,635 units to rank No. 1, while the PSP go sold 1,915 units to rank No. 8.
Nintendo in Mar. released the Nintendo DSi XL to U.S. retail.
The Nintendo DSi XL includes two 4.2-inch LCD screens, each 93 percent larger than the Nintendo DS Lite handheld. In addition, it features two digital cameras, DSi Sound application, larger stylus, and improved battery life.
The handheld is sold in Burgundy and Bronze at $189.99 each.
Pre-installed software includes Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math and Photo Clock, and two free applications: the Nintendo DSi Browser and Flipnote Studio.
Sony in June will sell the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP Entertainment Pack, which will include a ‘Spirited Green’ PSP-3000 hardware, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker UMD, exclusive in-game Camouflage Uniform with FOX logos and Stealth Gun feature, Playstation Network movie download voucher, and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for $199.99.
