Week recap: PS3 PSN outage; Xbox 360 bundle; Wii sales

Media Create Co. this week reported that Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 declined 14 percent to rank third in console sales in Japan.

The Playstation Network this week suffered an outage that disabled online gaming functionality for 24 hours.

GameStop this week touted a new God of War III Phantom of Chaos outfit in a new pre-order ad.

Sony this week said it will release SOCOM 4 to the PS3 this fall. The title will include multiplayer functionality for up to 32 players.

Amazon.com this week began offering $5 off God of War III with the purchase of God of War Collection.

The Wall Street Journal this week reported that Sony will insert Playstation functionality in new mobile devices this year. One device may include PSP functionality.

Sega Corp. this week said it will release Vanquish to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The PS3 hardware and software dominated top 10 game sales at Amazon this week on strong demand. Top sellers include Final Fantasy XIII and Heavy Rain.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 stayed tepid this week to rank No. 8 in overall sales in the latest Japan retail data.

Microsoft next week will sell a new Xbox 360 Elite Spring 2010 Bundle to include Forza Motorsport 3 and Halo 3: ODST at $299.99.

Capcom Co. this week released the Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape DLC to Xbox Live and PSN.

Microsoft this week updated the Xbox Live Code of Conduct to allow users to include race, nationality, and sexual orientation in Gamertags or profiles.

Modern Warfare 2 topped Xbox Live Activity for the week ending Feb. 15 based on unique users.

2K Games this week said the Bioshock 2 Sinclair Test Solutions DLC will drop to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC Mar. 11.

Square Enix Holdings Co. this week released the Just Cause 2 demo to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Media Create Co. this week reported that Nintendo Co.’s Wii ranked No. 2 in overall sales.

In addition, New Super Mario Bros. Wii ranked No. 4 in game sales for the week.

The Nintendo DSi ranked No. 3 in Japan sales, while the PSP ranked first and the PSP go ranked No. 9 in the latest retail sales.

Capcom Co. this week said the character Bass is available in Mega Man 10. The DLC title is now available on Wii.

Nintendo this week released a new wave of download content for the Wii, and Nintendo DSi.

Apple Inc. this week said it will sell the iPad tablet on Apr. 3. Pre-order sales will begin Mar. 12.

Amazon this week is selling Blu-ray titles at under $10.

It is concurrently holding a $12.99 Blu-ray sale.
