Nintendo Wii breaks record at 3.83M sold in Dec.

Nintendo Co.’s Wii sold more than 3.8 million units of the Wii hardware in Dec. U.S. sales to mark an all-time one month sales record in game hardware.

The company this week said the Wii sold 3.83 million units at Dec. U.S. retail to rank as the top hardware for the month.

Lifetime U.S. sales for Wii have topped 27.2 million units. More than 50 million units have been sold worldwide.

In addition, Nintendo ranked several software titles in Dec. top 10 sales, including New Super Mario Bros. Wii at No. 1 with 2.8 million units sold, Wii Sports Resort at No. 2 with 1.7 million sold, and the Wii Fit Plus with Wii Balance Board SKU at No. 3 with 1.7 million sold.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sports Resort have sold more than 4.2 million units each in the U.S to date.

Nintendo last Sept. price cut the Wii to $199.99.

This month, Netflix Inc. announced that it will offer TV and movie streaming functionality on Wii this spring.
