Sony Corp. this week held firm on a sales target for the Playstation 3 amid strong sales of the hardware post price cut.
Kaz Hirai, CEO Networked Products and Services, said this week that the PS3 is on track to reach a fiscal year sales target of 13 million units sold by 2010.
Sony in Oct. said that the Networked Products and Services division, which includes the Playstation game business, held a 58.8 billion yen loss ($654 million) in the second quarter due to slow sales.
The company cited a decrease in Playstation 2 game and hardware sales and the impact of foreign exchange rates for the quarter loss.
Sony in Sept. said the PS3 Slim has sold 1 million units at global retail in three weeks of availability.
This month, it began sale of the PS3 250GB model, which includes a 250GB hard drive at $349.99.
The PS3 sold 321,000 units in Oct., behind Nintendo Co.’s Wii and ahead of Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.
