Final: We Cheer 2 a peppy squad on Wii

November 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Namco Bandai Inc.’s We Cheer 2 is a solid cheerleading simulator for Nintendo Co.’s Wii that allow users to cheer and steer their Wii Remote controllers to victory.

The title features several modes, including Competitions to perform on stage or join a cheer squad, Multiplayer to compete with up to four players, Squad Look to customize a cheer squad and Training.

In We Cheer 2, users must follow blue and red trace lines that appear on the screen. Movements traced correctly will add Cheer Points to the tally. Certain sections include Bonus Chances or Stunt Time trace lines that will lead to an interlude where users can shake the Wii Remotes for extra points.

The motion controls are accurate for quick and peppy movements in each track. More difficult traces include tracing the same movement back and forth or large circular swirls that require more dexterity.

The trace combinations are creative and resemble the movements, though not exactly the energy required in cheer gestures.

The 30-track set includes leading artists like Miley Cyrus, Jesse McCartney and Demi Lovato to keep the title current among young fans.

The graphics engine is decent at 30 frames per second. Characters include Bratz-like caricatures of pouty teen girls and androgynous teen guys.

We Cheer 2 is a solid sequel for Wii that will entertain cheer fans. The movement controls work well against peppy pop tracks in a title that is fun for fans and a guilty pleasure for non-cheer players.
