Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 continued to grow its install base with strong sales in the latest Japan tally.

Media Create Co. on Fri. PS3 sold 36,061 units between Oct. 26 and Nov. 1 to rank as the top console and No. 2 overall hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 29,997 units the week prior.

The PS3 Slim was released in Japan on Sept. 3.

Sony in Aug. began sale of the new PS3 Slim model, a smaller and lighter version of the hardware.

The PS3 Slim includes a 120GB hard drive and a built-in Blu-ray disc player for $299.99.

Sony on Nov. 3 released a PS3 250GB SKU in the U.S. at $349.99.
