Sony to update PS3 Firmware 3.0 due to issues

Sony Corp.’s U.S. game division on Fri. said that it will provide an update to the latest firmware for the Playstation 3 hardware due to issues reported by select customers.

The company said that it is looking into the matter and will provide an update as soon as possible.

Sony issued the latest firmware v3.00 on Aug. 31.

Updates include a What’s New section, Status Indicator, Friends List, Playstation Store Shortcuts, Personalization, and Trophies options.

Sony this month began sale of the new Playstation 3 Slim model, a smaller and lighter version of the hardware.

The PS3 Slim includes a 120GB hard drive and a built-in Blu-ray disc player for $299.99.
