Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 36 beat Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 in Japan sales in a third-week streak in the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 11,291 units between Sept. 22 and Sept. 28 to rank as the No. 4 hardware in overall sales.
By comparison, the PS3 sold 8,275 units to rank as the No. 6 hardware for the week.
Xbox 360 sales in Japan were bolstered after a price cut enacted on Sept. 1, which discounted the hardware to as low as 19,800 yen ($189).
Additionally, strong demand for RPGs Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery have increased 360 hardware sales.
Microsoft on Sept. 5 discounted all Xbox 360 hardware in the U.S. between $50 to $80 to spur sales.
The Arcade SKU now sells for $199, the Pro at $299 and the Elite at $399.
In addition, retailer Amazon.com in Sept. discounted a range of Xbox Live products to spur sales.
It price cut the Xbox Live 12-month Gold subscription for $38.99, a 22 percent discount from a $49.99 MSRP.
Also, it price cut the Xbox Live 4000 Points SKU to $39.97, down from $49.99, and the Xbox Live 1600 Points SKU to $15.97, down from $19.99.
