Best Buy Co. Inc. stores this week sold out of Acer Inc.’s Aspire One netbook due to high-demand in its debut release at the retailer.

At Bestbuy.com, the product holds a sold out status. A check of local stores in the Southern California area held limited to no stock of the item.

The Acer Aspire One, which retails for $349.99, includes a 1.6 Ghz Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 120GB hard drive, and Windows XP. The product weighs 2.2 pounds and yields a scant 8.9-inch widescreen.

The Aspire One is among a new wave of ultra portable netbook devices that offer basic hardware functionality in smaller cases than average notebook computers.

HP Inc. in Apr. began sale of the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC, which utilizes a VIA C7-M.

The top-selling Asus Eee PCs utilize Intel Centrino M and Atom CPUs.

Acer this month price cut the Aspire One PC lineup to start at $349. It also introduced a business and education model with a six-cell battery and 160GB hard drive for $399.99.

A previous Linux-equipped model now sells for $329.99.
