August 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Sales for Toshiba Corp.’s new upconvert DVD player increased on Tues. upon availability at Amazon.com this week.

The XD-E500 , which sells for $179.99, held a 92 percent sales increase to rank at No. 283 in the Electronics division.

The player is said to provide standard DVD images closer to high-definition quality, allowing consumers to utilize their existing DVD library.

The XD-E500, or XDE, provides upconversion from 480i/p up to 1080p and offers selectable picture enhancement modes.

Modes, including Sharp Mode, Color Mode, and Contrast Mode are said to sharpen edges, improve color, and make darker scenes more clearly visible.

The final product includes HDMI-CEC, DivX certification, JPEG capability, MP3 and WMA playback.

Sony Corp.’s Blu-ray format declared victory over Toshiba Corp.’s HD DVD format in Feb.
