July 31st, 2008 · No Comments

Sony Corp.’s U.S. game division this week release Firmware version 2.42 to the Playstation 3 in the latest software update.

The new firmware is said to improve the playback quality of some PS3 titles and Playstation format software.

Earlier in July, the company released firmware update 2.41 to fix hardware malfunction reports of version 2.40.

Select PS3 owners who downloaded version 2.40 reported being unable to connect to their wireless controllers and relaying a blank screen following the download.

Sony this month recorded a Q1 profit of $50.5 million (5.4 billion yen) profit in its game division compared to a loss of $273.3 million (29.2 billion yen) one year prior.

The electronics giant will retail a new $399 PS3 80GB SKU this fall, representing a $100 price cut from the current 80GB model.
