Sanyo to sell Wii remote rechargeable battery pack

July 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Sanyo Electric Co. this week said it will retail a new rechargeable battery pack for Nintendo Co.’s Wii Remote in Japan on Aug. 25.

The charging station will utilize magnetic induction to charge the battery pack in less than four hours.

The device allows buyers to place the Wii Remote on the charging stand with the Wii Remote Jacket in place.

Sanyo will currently market the product in Japan only. It is the first Wii Remote battery recharge device officially licensed by Nintendo.

The battery pack, AC adapter, and charging station will retail for about $51 U.S.

Nyko Inc. sells the Wii Charge Station in the states, a device that allows two Wii Remote battery packs to be charged simultaneously. It retails for $24.99

Nintendo last week said Wii is the No. 1-selling console in the U.S., selling 10.9 million units to date.
