Microsoft Corp. on Tues. said it will allow XNA Community developers to sell their original game titles on the Xbox Live online service for the Xbox 360.
Creators will be able to choose from three suggested pre-set retail price points from 200 to 800 Microsoft Points and will receive up to 70 percent of the total revenue generated by their game.
“Not only are we democratizing game development with Xbox Live Community Games later this year, but we’re creating an opportunity for aspiring developers to start their careers on the world stage,” Satchell said.
“It is really a win for both developers and consumers because this will no doubt act as an incentive for game creators to continue to develop the best, most innovative games for Xbox 360.”
Microsoft says when Xbox Live Community Games launches this fall it expects the it double the size of the Xbox 360 game library.
The company first launched the XNA Game Studio in 2006 to allow budding developers to create smaller scale original titles.
Microsoft held a setback in U.S. hardware sales this month as Sony Corp. claimed Playstation 3 sales 84 percent above the Xbox 360 in June.
The hardware sold 219,800 units for the month to rank behind the PS3 and Nintendo Co.’s Wii.
This month, Microsoft price cut the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro model by $50 to $299.99. It will sell a new 60GB model for $349.99 this fall.
