Sega Corp.’s U.S. and Europe game divisions on Mon. announced the development of Sonic and The Black Knight for Nintendo Co.’s Wii.
Developed by Japan-based Sonic Team, the new action title will feature the iconic blue hedgehog wielding a sword to combat enemies.
The Black Knight is said to utilize the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk accessory.
“Sonic and the Black Knight is a stunning adventure into an epic land and story that no gamer can resist,” said Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, Sega of America, Inc.
“Gamers will experience all the excitement of mastering a sword and true knighthood, as well as the classic, speedy, 2D/3D gaming action that Sonic is famous for.”
Sega previously released Sonic and The Secret Rings exclusively to Wii.
Additionally, Sonic appeared in the 2007 holiday hit, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
The company is also in development on Sonic Unleashed, a new entry in the series in which Sonic can transform into a Werehog.
Nintendo last week said Wii is the No. 1-selling console in the U.S., selling 10.9 million units to date.
Sonic and the Black Knight is scheduled to be released in spring 2009.
