E3 recap: PS3 video; Xbox 360 FF XIII; Wii Music

Sony this week talked $29.99 PS3 titles, Resistance 2, and LittleBigPlanet in its E3 Media Briefing.

Additionally, it opened a new Playstation Store video download service to offer standard and high-def movies and TV shows.

Also, it announced that the 80GB PS3 will be price cut to $399.99 this fall.

Sony this week announced MAG, a 256-player massive online multiplayer for the PS3. The title is in development at Zipper Interactive.

Sony this week said that the PSP handheld is key to owning the living room. Owners can transfer content downloaded at the new Playstation video download store to the PSP.

Killzone 2 packed visual heat in its latest build at E3. The title will be released in 2009.

Additionally, Killzone 2 held chaotic gameplay on the battlefield in a crash landing introduction.

Sony this week demonstrated a non-platform level of LittleBigPlanet for the PS3. The title will allow owners to custom-create levels and share them online.

Additionally, it demonstrated a new construction level that employed three player co-op action in physics-based puzzles.

Resistance 2 held solid multiplayer mechanics in the latest build at E3. The title will be released this fall.

A new video of Killzone 2 demonstrates indoor locations in the game. Effects included light filters and smoke-y bullet fire.

Sony this week demonstrated MotorStorm: Pacific Rift for the PS3. The fall release will take place on an island for new off-road action.

Microsoft Corp. this week talked avatars, Netflix, games and more at the E3 Media & Business Summit. Also, the hardware will receive a revamped interface this fall.

Microsoft showcased Gears of War 2, Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy XIII at the E3 Media Briefing. Additionally, it touted Fable 2 and Lips.

Microsoft said that it will outsell Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 this generation. The hardware has sold more than 10 million units to date in the U.S.

Fable 2 is magical action on the Xbox 360 in an initial play test. The title will be released this fall.

WB Games Inc.’s Project Origin relayed awesome mech action in a video taken at E3. The title will be released this fall to multiple platforms.

A new video of the title showcased in-mech action available in the final game.

Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil 5 held indoor action in a video taken from the latest build. The title will be release in spring 2009.

Nintendo Co. this week said that it will offer the Wii MotionPlus accessory for the Wii Remote. The device is said to offer enhanced precision in motion-sensing.

Nintendo this week announced Wii Music and Wii Sports Resort at its E3 Media Briefing. Wii Music will be released for the holidays, while Resort will be released in spring 2009.

Nintendo demonstrated Wii Music saxophone and drum action at the E3 Media Briefing. More than 60 instruments will be in the final version.

Nintendo this week demonstrated Wii Sports Resort Power Cruising at the E3 Media Briefing. The Wii MotionPlus and Wii Nunchuk were used to steer a water scooter.

Wii Sports Resort is fun in the sun in an initial play test. Activities include Disc Dog, Power Cruising, and Sword Play.

Nintendo this week said that reproduced ideas from other companies is a danger to the company. Nintendo said that consumers can grow tired quickly of new ideas.

Nintendo this week showcased Wii Sports Resort Sword Play with a wood chopping introduction. In the activity, the player slices and dices blocks of wood and pencils.

Nintendo this week demonstrated Animal Crossing: City Folk with fishing and town searching activities. The title will be compatible with a new WiiSpeak microphone peripheral.

Nintendo this week claimed the No. 1 hardware position in the U.S. as Wii sales reached 10.9 million units. The prior leader in sales was the Xbox 360.

Wii and PS3’s forecast is clear while the Xbox 360’s is cloudy. Microsoft’s console lacked a focus in expanding the hardware’s current audience.
