Sony Corp.’s PSP handheld beat Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo DS and Wii home console in the latest Japan sales figures released this week.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the PSP sold 56,998 units between July 7 and July 13 to rank as the No. 1 hardware for the week.
By comparison, the DS sold 48,540 units and the Wii sold 41,768 units to rank as the No. 2 and No. 3 best-selling hardware.
The PSP ranked one title in top ten software sales, Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter 2nd G at No. 10. The DS ranked five titles and the Wii ranked three titles in the top 10.
Sony this week said that it will retail a new Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters Entertainment Pack this fall.
The PSP has sold 35 million units to date worldwide.
Meanwhile, Nintendo this week said that 70 million DS units have been sold worldwide.
Additionally, it announced this week that the Wii is the No. 1-selling game hardware in the U.S. at 10.9 million units sold to date.
