E3: Wii Sports Resort fun in the sun for Wii

July 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Nintendo Co.’s Wii Sports Resort, the follow-up to Wii Sports, is a fun time in the sun in a play test at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Los Angeles, CA.

The Wii Sports Resort demo featured several activities, including Power Cruising and Disc Dog.

In Power Cruising, players take the Wii Remote with the new Wii MotionPlus accessory and the Wii Nunchuk to replicate virtual water scooter handle bars.

The B button accelerates, while left and right dips with the controllers steer the scooter through marked gates. The faster players move through the gate, the higher the number of points received.

Control was easy to learn and fun to play. Each gate begins with 10 points and slowly counts down by the second to encourage players to quickly race through the gates.

To provide a boost, players twist back Wii Remote to blast forward for a few seconds. Players can boost again once the Boost meter refills.

In Disc Dog, players hold the Wii Remote with Wii MotionPlus exactly like real Frisbee to a virtual pup. The toss and placement of the disc will depend on how flat and fast the toss motion is. Players can twist slightly upward during the toss to throw the disc higher in the air, or down for a leaner throw.

The closer to the target the toss lands at, the higher the number of points.

Wii Sports Resort is scheduled for release in spring 2009.
