E3: Resident Evil 5 intense on PS3, Xbox 360

July 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil 5 is an intense action offering in the latest build showcased behind closed doors at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Los Angeles this week

The demo version featured two outdoor areas, both of which highlighted an array of indoor and outdoor environments.

New to the title is a secondary character named Sheva who will help in battle situations. Each item found can be taken or given to your partner. In addition, Sheva can heal or provide additional ammo to the player.

At the start of the demo, a leader commanded a hoard of enemies to attack, similar to Resident Evil 4.

The enemies can break through windows and doors to attack like the prior installment. Additionally, enemies will jump over tall fences and leap from one rooftop to the other.

New defensive attacks include a context sensitive action button to beat down an enemy or help out a partner in danger.

Also, players can access their item inventory in-game by holding down a face button to select weapons or items.

The demo build, played on the Playstation 3, held a rich sunlight environment and heavily detailed character models. Enemies held a wider catalog of animations and a new bag-headed axe-wielding psycho was terrifying.

Additional effects like enemy bullet-reaction and a flame burst from an oil drum were equally satisfying.

Next to the PS3 version, the Xbox 360 version looked virtually identical in quality.

Resident Evil 5 will be released to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in Mar. 2009.
