Sony Corp.’s Killzone 2 for the Playstation 3 is a chaotic first-person shooter based on an initial play test at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Los Angeles, CA
The title starts with a bang as a player and his team crash lands from a ship to the war zone. Players, armed with an assault rifle and two grenades must work into enemy territory to fire away at nearby enemies and faraway turret handlers.
Control in the early build was solid. Players fire a weapon with the R trigger and toss grenades with the L trigger. The standard aim sensitivity was a tad slippery in the default mode, particularly when each bullet fire moved the weapon. Players can zoom in on the standard assault rifle to accurately pinpoint farther targets.
Enemies were relentless from the start with tons of ammo and grenades at their disposal. A trio of three soldiers on turrets provided a deathly scenario that required accurate zoom-and-pop play to proceed.
The graphics engine was spectacular at 30 frames per second. Smoke blooms burst in fluid fashion, multiple objects exploded from heavy fire and the war zone sprayed a ridiculous amount of action in each frame.
The final game also will include plenty of indoor environments with a litter of enemies to weave through.
Killzone 2 is scheduled to be released in 2009.
