E3: Xbox 360 will outsell the PS3, says Microsoft

July 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Microsoft Corp. on Mon. boldly stated in its annual E3 Media Briefing that the company’s Xbox 360 will outsell Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 this generation.

Don Mattrick, Senior Vice President, Entertainment and Devices Division told the press that the Xbox 360 has sold 10.3 million units to date in the U.S., compared to the PS3 at 4.3 million sold to date.

The company announced a wave of new product, including an overhauled Xbox 360 interface, new avatar system, new game show software, and exclusive titles for the hardware.

The most stunning announcement came from Japan-based Square-Enix Co. when it announced that the title Final Fantasy XIII will be released for the Xbox 360. It was previously announced for the PS3 and is the first major Final Fantasy release to defect to a rival game console.

The title may provide a boost in the Japan region, where the Xbox 360 ranks last in overall hardware sales in week-to-week tallies.

Microsoft on Sun. announced a price cut for the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro SKU to $299.99 from a $349.99 MSRP. It will also retail a new 60GB SKU to replace the Pro option this Aug.
