Microsoft Corp. on Mon. debuted a slew of new titles in development for the Xbox 360 video game console.
Epic Games’ Gears of War 2 looked fantastic in the latest build. A burning city crumbled to pieces as two protagonists rushed in to take out a hoard of enemies. New gameplay options include using an enemy as a shield, a new Horde online five-player co-op mode. The title will be released on Nov. 7.
Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil 5 held a solid build and debuted a brand new two-player online co-op mode. In the demo, lead character Chris Redfield and new secondary character Sheva help each other to complete a level set in Africa.
In one scenario, Chris tosses Sheva over a collapsed bridge to reach another building. In another, Sheva shoots open a door lock in order for Chris to meet her on the other side. Resident Evil 5 will be released on Mar. 13, 2009 in the U.S.
Square-Enix Co. on Mon held a last-minute surprise announcement that Final Fantasy XIII will be released on the Xbox 360 in the U.S. and Europe. The title was previously announced for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3.
Additional titles showcased at the conference included Fable 2, to be sold in Oct., Lips, a new karaoke party title, and Fallout 3, a new first-person shooter, to be released this Oct.
