Nintendo Co.’s Wii ranked No. 3 in Japan video game hardware sales amid hotter sales for handheld hardware.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 44,525 units between June 30 and July 6 to rank as the third best-selling game hardware for the week.
Sony Corp.’s PSP and Nintendo’s Nintendo DS handheld held the No. 1 and No. 2 hardware rankings, respectively.
Wii ranked three titles in the top 10 game sales, including Mario Kart Wii at No. 6, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World at No. 7, and Mario Super Sluggers at No. 8.
Nintendo in June said it will release Mario Super Sluggers to the U.S. in Aug.
NPD Group Inc. in June said that the Wii sold 675,089 units in U.S. May sales to rank as the No. 1 hardware for the month.
