Capcom Co.’s Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is a top-notch arcade shooter for the Xbox 360 that deploys classic arcade shooting action with new 3D graphics and online co-op play.
In the title, players can choose between three characters – Wolf, Coyote, and Fox – each with unique speed, stealth, and grenade attributes.
Players use the left analog to move and the right analog to point and shoot in eight directions. Additionally, the triggers can launch grenades and execute a special attack.
Endless amounts of soldiers will keep the screen packed with action at all times. Enemies include standard soldiers, beefy soldiers, camps that endlessly spawn troops, vehicles, and level-end bosses.
Weapons include single-beam, double-beam, and wide-beam shots. Upgrades can be picked up along the way to switch from weapon to weapon.
Locals include Mountain, Prison, and Beach stages that relay a simple yet effective combination of typical war-based scenery.
The graphics engine runs between 60 and 30 frames per second, with the game slowing to the latter when lots of firepower and enemies fill the screen. Thankfully, the frame rate slow down doesn’t impede the gameplay.
The sound engine is decent with drum and guitar-based themes that compliment the on-screen action.
The final game includes three-player online or local play. The play is fine on single mode, but for the best time, gather some friends for co-op action.
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is an action-packed title for Xbox Live. Not since Capcom’s Cannon Spike has a shooter delivered better classic shoot-em-up action to bullet freaks.
