Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii were second to Sony Corp.’s PSP in the latest Japan retail data.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 48,480 units between June 23 and June 29 to rank as the No. 2 video game hardware for the week.
By comparison, the PSP sold 58,816 units in the same period to rank as the top-selling hardware.
Namco Bandai Inc.’s Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for Wii held a solid debut at No. 2, selling 137,431 units for the week.
Other top ten Wii titles include Wii Fit at No. 6 and Mario Kart Wii at No. 8.
The PSP did not rank any software titles in the top 10 sales.
NPD Group Inc. in June said that the Wii sold 675,089 units in U.S. May sales to rank as the No. 1 hardware for the month. The PSP sold 182,300 units in May U.S. sales.
