Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 held steady on stable demand for Konami Inc.’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the PS3 sold 17,973 units between June 23 and June 29, a decrease of 18 percent compared to one week ago.
Sales of Metal Gear Solid 4 fell to No. 7, moving an additional 33,690 units for the week. It previously ranked at No. 4.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is the latest entry in the top-selling stealth action franchise. The new title is said to be Snake’s final mission in an attempt to foil Liquid Snake and his army.
Sony’s U.S. game division this week pulled a PS3 software update offline following complaints of hardware malfunction. Firmware 2.40 was to include XMB in-game access and a new Google search bar function.
The PS3 ranked as the No. 3 best-selling console in May U.S. sales according to NPD Group Inc.
