Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 increased 50 percent in Japan on the release of a new Gundam title in the latest retail data for the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 5,104 units between June 23 and June 29. By comparison, the hardware sold 2,555 units the week prior.
Bandai Namco Inc.’s Gundam Operation Troy for the Xbox 360 held a solid debut at No. 10 to move 27,524 units for the week.
Another 360 title in the top 50 was EA Inc.’s Battlefield: Bad Company, which ranked at No. 19.
Microsoft in June announced a new wave of role-playing titles for the Xbox 360 at the Xbox 360 RPG Premier Event in Japan.
New titles include Infinite Discovery, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and Tales of Vesperia.
NPD Group Inc. this month said that the Xbox 360 sold 186,600 units in May U.S. sales to rank as the No. 4 video game hardware for the month.
