Sales for Harmonix and MTV Games’ Rock Band Special Edition for Nintendo Co.’s Wii increased on Mon. following the announcement of Rock Band 2.
The Rock Band Special Edition Wii SKU held a 77 percent increase in sales to rank as the No. 9 best-selling video game at Amazon.com.
Rock Band for Wii was released in June following releases on competing hardware in late 2007.
The title includes an array of instrument peripherals to allow owners to form a virtual Rock Band.
Harmonix, MTV Games, and EA Inc. this week announced that Rock Band 2 will debut this Sept. on Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360. It will be released on other platforms later in the year.
The latest in the music franchise will introduce cooperative band play, multiple instruments, and new online modes.
Additionally, all previously downloaded music tracks from Rock Band will be compatible with Rock Band 2.
Rival music games will appear later this year to compete with the latest Rock Band title.
Activision Inc. will release Guitar Hero World Tour, which will include multiple instrument peripherals. Konami Inc. will also step into the music band genre with Rock Revolution this year.
