Week recap: PS3 gift card; Xbox 360 sales; Wii Fit

Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 warmed up in Japan in the latest Japan retail data. The hardware ranked No. 4 in overall sales.

2K Games this week said that Bioshock will be released to the PS3 in Oct. The title will include exclusive features not found in prior releases.

Wal-Mart in June will offer a free $100 gift card with the purchase of a 40GB PS3. The retailer disclaims limited quantities of the product.

Metal Gear Solid 4 this week held in the top 25 sales at Amazon.com. The title is scheduled for release in June.

Namco Bandai this week said that it will release Splatterhouse to the PS3 in 2009. The title is all-new entry in the horror franchise.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 were up 25 percent in the latest Japan retail tally. The hardware ranked No. 6 in overall sales.

Amazon this week began offering a free $50 gift card with the purchase of an Xbox 360 and Grand Theft Auto IV. The promotion ends in late June.

Microsoft this week released Buku Sudoku and Warlords to Xbox Live Arcade. The titles retail between 400 and 800 Microsoft Points.

Microsoft this week said that Tecmo Inc.’s Ninja Gaiden II has gone gold and is ready for release at U.S. retail in June.

Amazon this week began pre-orders for Guitar Hero World Tour for the Xbox 360. The title will also be released on the PS3 and Wii.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii rebounded in Japan in the latest retail figures. The hardware ranked No. 2 in overall sales.

Ubisoft Inc. this week said that the title Shaun White Snowboarding will employ use of the Wii Balance Board. The Wii version will also include exclusive content.

Wii Fit this week held in the top five sales at Amazon one-week after release. The fitness title has been sold out at most U.S. retailers.

Nintendo this week released a new wave of WiiWare and Virtual Console titles to Wii. Titles include Dr. Mario Online Rx and Metal Slug.

Technology News

Tivo Inc. this week said that it will offer Disney movie rentals. The service will be available to Series2 and Series3 hardware owners.

Microsoft this week demonstrated touch interaction in the latest build of Windows 7. The OS is expected to be released in 2010.

VIA this week launched a new low-energy CPU line called Nano. The 65-nm processors offers as much as four times the power as the current C7.

Intel and Micron this week announced 34-nm 32GB flash chip for consumer devices. The chip will be available by year-end.
