Amazon.com and Simon & Schuster, Inc. this week said Simon & Schuster will offer 5,000 additional book titles to the Amazon Kindle reading device in 2008.
Kindle, released in Nov. 2007, is a wirless reading device that allows owners to books, magazines, newspapers, and more to a high-resolution digital display.
“Kindle is re-igniting a love of reading — after purchasing a Kindle, customers purchase, on average, just as many physical books, and their total book purchases on Amazon increase by 2.6x,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO.
“This commitment from Simon & Schuster moves us closer to our vision for Kindle, which is to make any book, ever printed, in any language available in less than 60 seconds.”
More than 125,000 books are currently available for Kindle.
Books are delivered to Kindle via EVDO cell phone networks in less than a minute.
The device held a sold out status for months in late 2007 Amazon due to high demand.
Kindle carries a retail price of $359.99.
