Blu-ray disc sales rise at Amazon

Sales for select Blu-ray titles increased this week at Amazon.com on various discounts and promotions for premium and standard disc SKUs.

The Blu-ray War Classics Bundle, which includes Patton, The Longest Day, and Sand Pebbles increased 337 percent and Firefly - The Complete Series increased 205 percent.

Both SKUs have been discounted from 30 to 45 percent.

Additionally, titles like Big Fish, Semi-Pro, Ice Age, and House of Flying Daggers all held sales increases.

Amazon this week began offering up to 50 percent off high-definition titles in a new Summer Blu-ray Blowout sale.

Additionally, it is offering 45 percent off Blu-ray disc bundles.

Retailers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Best Buy Co. Inc. have begun selling cheaper stand-alone Blu-ray disc players to spur adoption of the high-defintion format.

Wal-Mart this week began offering a $298 Magnavox Blu-ray disc player to in-store customers.

Meanwhile Best Buy is selling a $349 Insignia Blu-ray disc player in-store and online.
