Week recap: PS3 Resistance; Xbox 360 10M; Wii Fit order

Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 were slow in Japan in the latest hardware tally. The hardware ranked No. 4 in overall sales.

Sony this week recorded a fourth quarter fiscal profit on lower losses in the game unit. The company predicts 10 million PS3 units sold this fiscal year.

Konami Corp. this week said that it will sell a limited edition Gun Metal Grey PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle to online customers for $599.99. The company will start pre-orders in May.

Sony this week released the upcoming 2008 to early 2009 game lineup for the PS3, PSP, and PS2. Titles include Resistance 2, SOCOM Confrontation, LittleBigPlanet, Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2, and SIREN: Blood Curse.

GTA IV PS3 SKU sales closed in on the Xbox 360 SKU this week at Amazon.com. The PS3 version held a rank one behind the Xbox 360 version in a close head-to-head sales match.

Codemasters Inc. this week released the Overlord: Raising Hell demo to the Playstation Network. The full title will be sold in June.

Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 moved over 1,200 units in the latest Japan retail data. The hardware ranked No. 6 in overall sales.

Microsoft this week said the Xbox 360 is the first next-gen console to reach the 10 million unit sold mark. The hardware was released in late 2005.

Microsoft this week showcased upcoming titles to be released on the Xbox 360. Titles included Gears of War 2, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, and Fable 2.

Capcom Co. this week said that Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions Colonies has gone gold and will be released in late May. The title will include features not released in previous versions of the game.

Advanced orders for Tecmo Inc.’s Ninja Gaiden II increased this week at retailer Amazon.com. The title will be released in June.

Nintendo Co.’s Wii outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360 combined in U.S. Apr. sales. Wii ranked as the No. 1 video game hardware for the month.

Nintendo this week was ordered to pay $21 million in a patent infringement case. The lawsuit was related to control designs for the Wii and GameCube hardware.

Wal-Mart this week offered more stock of Wii Fit pre-orders to online customers. It is offering a free $10 Walmart.com gift card with each advanced order.

Wii is set to beat Xbox 360’s 10 million unit sold mark. The hardware has sold 9.5 million units to date and is on pace to move more than 10 million units in the next few months.

Wii was beat by Sony’s PSP handheld in the latest Japan retail sales data. The hardware ranked No. 2 in overall sales.

Walmart.com this week opened a Wii Fit Brand Shop to showcase all Wii Fit-related products. Items include a Yoga Mat, Silicone Sleeve, and Travel Storage Pack.

Nintendo this week launched the WiiWare game service to the U.S. Initial titles include Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, LostWinds, and Defend Your Castle.

Hudson Entertainment this week released Deca Sports to Wii this week. The title features ten sporting events, including badminton, basketball, and figure skating.

Technology News

Amazon this week fired a new 2 for $30 Blu-ray disc sale. Titles include Blade Runner, 300, and Pan’s Labyrinth.

The National Treasure 1 & 2 Double Pack ranked as the No. 1 Blu-ray title at Amazon this week. The SKU is exclusive to the retailer.

Best Buy this week began offer a 2 for $30 sale to online customers. Titles include The Departed, Troy, 300, and A Knight’s Tale.
