Nintendo Co.’s Wii was outsold by Sony Corp.’s PSP handheld in the latest Japan retail figures.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 67,308 units between May 5 and May 11. By comparison the PSP sold 89,884 units in the same period to rank as the No. 1 hardware for the week.
Wii software dominated the top 10 with six titles, including Mario Kart Wii at No. 1, Wii Fit at No. 2, and Link’s Crossbow Training at No. 4.
Wii outsold the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 combined in Apr. U.S. sales in data from NPD Group Inc. this week.
Additionally, Mario Kart Wii sold 1.1 million units in the U.S. during the month to rank as the No. 2 software.
Next week, it will sell the new $89.99 title Wii Fit, which will allow users to perform more than 40 exercises on the included Wii Balance Board peripheral.
