Sega Corp.’s U.S. and Europe game divisions on Thurs. announced an agreement with PlatinumGames Inc. to release new game titles to Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, Nintendo Co.’s Wii, and the Nintendo DS handheld.
Under the agreement, PlatinumGames will develop three titles - Madworld, Infinite Line, and Bayonetta. Additionally, a fourth title will be directed by Japanese game designer Shinji Mikami.
“The creative forces at PlatinumGames bring a new level of imagination into the Sega family at a pivotal time in the video game industry when the demand for quality, originality and fun has never been greater,” said Tatsuya Minami, President and CEO, PlatinumGames.
“These new titles will contribute meaningfully to Sega’s brand, while adding a new level of depth to the strategic portfolio of games in our library.”
Bayonetta is a cinematic action title to be released in 2009 for the Xbox 360. The game is said to include countless enemies and fast-paced combat.
Madworld is a third-person action game set for a Q1 2009 release for Wii. The title will include environmental-based weapons, including chainsaws and street signs, in combination with sports commentary.
Infinite Line is a role-playing title for the Nintendo DS that allows players to customize more than 150 spaceships. The title will also offer 200 characters to control multiple ships at once. It is set for release in 2009.
