Amazon.com this week price cut advanced orders for the HD DVD title I Am Legend to $18.99 in a promotion to sell one of the last releases for the obsolete format.
Sales for the Warner Bros.’ I Am Legend HD DVD / DVD Combo disc increased 173 percent on Wed. evening to rank as the No. 19 best-selling product in the Movies & TV division.
The title carries a list price of $35.99. It will be released on Apr. 15.
By comparison, the Blu-ray disc version sells for $24.99.
Paramount Home Video studio announced that it will drop the format by Mar. 4.
The announcement resulted in the cancellation of Bee Movie on HD DVD, which previously held strong pre-order sales at Amazon.
This week, Amazon.com fired a new 57% off HD DVD sale to promote HD DVD sales.
Discounted titles include The Complete Matrix Trilogy at $41.99, The Ocean’s Trilogy at $36.49, Harry Potter Years 1- 5 Limited Edition Gift Set at $71.49, and Batman Begins at $15.99.
