Amazon price cuts Blu-ray titles to $14.95

Amazon.com on this week price cut select Sony Blu-ray titles to $14.95 in the latest high-definition retail promotion.

Titles price cut to $14.95 include Underworld, Hellboy, The Patriot, and Black Hawk Down.

Toshiba Corp. last month said it will exit the HD DVD business by Mar. following announcements from Best Buy Co. Inc., Netflix Inc., and Wal-Mart stores that they would back Blu-ray over HD DVD.

Since Blu-ray’s format victory, retailers have begun to offer incentives to drive the format to customers.

Amazon is offering up to 50 percent off select Blu-ray disc titles.

This week, Best Buy stores are offering a free $20 gift card with the purchase of any two Blu-ray disc titles.

Titles advertised at $29.99 include Resident Evil: Extinction, Superbad, The Assassination of Jesse James, The Brave One, and Michael Clayton.

In Apr., a new wave of Blu-ray titles will be sold for $9.95.
