Xbox 360 Japan sales down despite top 50 software

February 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 fell in Japan despite charting software in the top 50 sales.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 2,001 units between Feb. 18 and Feb. 24. The hardware sold 2,198 units the week prior.

New entry Take-Two Inc.’s Bioshock entered the software charts at a respectable No. 8, moving 17,808 copies during the week.

Additionally, EA Inc.’s Burnout Paradise held a No. 31 rank in its debut week.

Microsoft this week said the Xbox 360 is in short supply at U.S. retail. It expects stock to rebound in Mar.

The Xbox 360 recorded sales of 230,000 units in the month of Jan., below Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 according to NPD Group Inc.

Retailers this week discounted the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player to $49.99 following Toshiba Corp.’s exit from the HD DVD disc business.

Microsoft said last week it does not expect to exit to impact Xbox 360 hardware sales.
