Nintendo Co.’s Wii system continued to hold a lead over popular handhelds in the latest Japan hardware charts.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 63,504 units between Feb. 18 to Feb. 24. By comparison, Sony Corp. ’s PSP handheld sold 53,373 and the Nintendo DS sold 50,151 units in the same period.
The hardware sold 78,583 units the week prior.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl held the No. 1 software ranking, moving another 77,525 units for the week. Fitness title Wii Fit held the No. 3 position with 61,922 units sold during the week.
Magazine publisher Enterbrain this week said that the Wii sold outsold the PS3 4-to-1 in Jan. in Japan.
In the states, Wii ranked as the No. 1-selling game hardware in the month of Jan., moving 274,000 units according to new data from NPD Group Inc this week.
Nintendo this month said that it will release Wii Fit on May 19 in the states. Additionally, it will launch the WiiWare game download service the same month.
