Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 experienced a fourth-week slump in Japan as hardware sales decreased in the latest Japan tally.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the PS3 sold 14,060 units between Feb. 18 and Feb. 24. By comparison, the hardware sold 17,637 units the week prior.
Capcom Co.’s Lost Planet: Extreme Condition held as the sole PS3 software title in the top ten, moving 22,696 units in its debut week.
Magazine publisher Enterbrain this week said that the Wii outsold the PS3 4-to-1 in Jan. sales in Japan. Wii sold 331,627 compared to 89,131 PS3 units in the four-week period.
In the U.S., Sony held increased PS3 sales during the month of Jan., moving 269,000 units to outsell Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 according to NPD Group Inc.
Sony on Tues. said that it will release a new Metal Gear SKU in late Q2 to include a 80GB PS3, DualShock 3 controller, and Metal Gear Solid 4 for $499.99.
